Sports for Schools Fitness Circuit and Motivational Assembly

Our school teamed up with Sports for Schools, and were lucky enough to welcome Team GB pole vaulter Sally Scott into our school. Sports for Schools run athlete-led physical activities events to inspire kids (to do more sport), raise money for PE equipment in school, and support GB athletes. Sally came into school with a Sportivater to run a superb fitness circuit with the kids. So our children actually had the chance to train with one of the top pole vaulters in the world! The whole school absolutely loved taking part in the fitness circuit...so did the teachers!

After the circuit, Sally gave a motivational speech to the children about how she became a top athlete. Sally spoke about her individual sporting experiences, the lessons she has learned in life, and gave a spectacular demonstration of how to use the pole. The children were incredibly engaged and wanted to ask Sally so many questions!

On the back of the fitness circuit, the children have raised an incredible £1051.20, with the majority of that money going towards buying new P.E. equipment for school to continue inspiring children to reach their very best in sport.

A huge thank you to all those who helped the children collect donations.

Over the past twelve weeks, Miss McMullen has dedicated her time after school on a Tuesday evening preparing children from both Key Stage 1 and 2 for the Dance Festival at The Parks. Miss McMullen has prepared and choreographed a fantastic routine to the theme of Aladdin. The children involved have absolutely loved being involved in the dance club and their hard work has certainly paid off as they have put on unbelievable performances for Key Stage 1 and 2 in school (as you can see from the photos). On the night of the festival at The Parks, the children had their parents in awe with their breath taking display in front of so many people on such a big stage. All of the children involved deserve a huge well done for their team work skills, dedication and dance talent.

A special thank you must go to Miss McMullen for all the hard work she has put in to the performance. Without her it would not have been possible to create such a fantastic performance.

For any parents wishing to buy a copy of the DVD of the Dance Festival performance, this can be obtained by contacting The Parks.

Year 3/4 Quicksticks Hockey Festival

On Thursday 16th February, children from our Year 3 and 4 classes were selected to represent the school at the North Tyneside Quicksticks Hockey Festival. An A and a B team were selected for the competition, with the two teams appearing in different groups. Each team had the opportunity to progress from the festival and represent North Tyneside at a Quicksticks competition in the future.

Both of our teams were fantastic! They were sporting in their victories, and gracious in defeat. They supported each other and showed excellent teamwork skills and sportsmanship. All of the children represented the school impeccably well and are a credit to St. Joseph's!
